January 2026 Web Notes
Captain Debbie opened the meeting by welcoming all of the 2026 Women’s Committee and thanked them for volunteering to share their time and experience for the benefit of the WGC Women’s section. Thanks, were also expressed to the 2025 committee for working so diligently and effectively for our club.
Appreciation was also expressed to all volunteers during 2025 for helping in the running of our section, which includes arranging sponsorship, checking cards, and closing competitions, competition teams, and for setting up the presentation tables, cleaning trophies etc.
President Deirdre was ratified onto the committee as Women’s President and thanks were expressed for this commitment.
All the committee expressed their enthusiasm for supporting our section and the club during 2026.
Bereavement – Condolences were expressed to member Nora Dunne on the passing of her mother Mary Wickham and to Anna O’Reilly on the death of her son Thomas O’Reilly in December 2025. Both funerals are due to be held on 10th January 2026.
Officer’s Drive-In – 1st January 2026 - A very successful and Happy Day, Captain Debbie and President Deirdre expressed their thanks for everyone for attending and for their good wishes. This contributed to making this day so memorable for everyone.
Communication – The committee agreed that we would continue with the compilation of Web-notes as the means of providing a summary of Women’s monthly committee meetings to our members. These notes will be uploaded to the WGC Website when approved by the committee. We are grateful for the appreciation of these web-notes which was expressed in the 2025 Townhall meeting.
Members are requested to send in any feedback / requests to: womensclub@wicklowgolfclub.ie at least 3 days before each women’s committee meeting, so that they can be formally discussed and responded to at the next Women’s Committee meeting. Dates of 2026 planned committee meetings below:

It was agreed in the meeting that the ‘new members’ WhatsApp group is made inactive as all these women members are on the WGC Ladies WhatsApp. This group’s members are based on the live list of members provided by the club Office.
Communication was received querying if the women’s section would consider applying a ‘temporary winter’ handicap for members who joined later in the year as it was not possible for them to complete cards for handicap purposes during the qualifying season. This was agreed, and Women’s Handicap Secretary will be contacting applicable members on the understanding that this temporary handicap will cease when the qualifying season starts, and they will be able to submit cards for their WHS Handicap.
Spring Competitions – Based on feedback of the Townhall meeting the Spring 2026 Wednesday competitions have been set up to include Team competitions. We will be seeking members feedback on this format before setting the Wednesday formats for Winter 2026 season.
The Weekend Spring League will commence on 9th January and prior to this date, the League rules will be displayed in the locker room, and a PDF version will be sent to members via WhatsApp. The entry sheet will also be put up in the locker room.
Interclub Competitions
Mary Cahill has agreed to be team liaison and is looking for team Managers for the following competitions:
Irish Mixed Fourball - Volunteers are required.
Senior Cup - Volunteers are required.
Senior Foursomes - Volunteers are required.
Junior Cup - Volunteers are required.
Intermediate Foursomes - Volunteers are required.
Minor Foursomes - Volunteers are required.
Leinster Women’s Trophy - Volunteers are required.
Revive active 4 ball - Volunteers are required.
Mount Wolseley (over 36 handicap) Competition - Volunteers are required.
The Courtown Cup will be managed by Captain Debbie Kinsella
We are keen to get the team managers and team panel of players in place as soon as possible so that we can start team practice. Please could you contact: Mary Cahill on 089 659 8145 for further details.
Juniors Golf – We are looking for women to assist with supporting and encouraging our Junior golfers on a Monday and Friday during summer months. To prepare for this we will be arranging for in-house group safeguarding training. Please express your interest in this training and support of the Junior Golf to a committee member. Mary Cahill has kindly agreed to continue as the Designated Liaison Person for Wicklow Golf Club.
Social Events:
Children’s Christmas Party - Thanks expressed to Therese, Bernie, Gabby, Christine, Michael O’Reilly, and Killian for setting up a wonderful grotto for Santa and to Captain Debbie, Marie Vickers, Carole Carty, and Ann Church for being Santa’s helpers on the day of the event. Larry Donnelly Snr and Junior made a fantastic team, and so did Killian ringing Santa into the grotto. It was a magical event for all involved.
Women’s Christmas Party – This was a very enjoyable evening incorporating the final prize giving of the year.
February 2026 events:
Friday 20th – New Member’s evening. President Deirdre will be contact all our new members with details of this event.
Saturday 14th Valentines Dinner and Dance – We look forward to seeing you at this event.
Social Committee – The Social calendar has been sent out by email to all members and is displayed in the locker room.
