The Junior Section of Wicklow Golf club has grown from strength to strength under the stewardship of our dedicated Junior Committee and PGA Head Professional. Wicklow welcomes boys and girls from age 8 upwards and caters for all golfing abilities. Juniors have access to the course and facilities all year round.

Coaching

Our coaching program is delivered by our PGA professional, and junior members have the opportunity to partake in this coaching program as part of their annual subscription. 

Competitions & Fun Days

Junior competitions take place twice a week during school holidays, usually on Mondays and Fridays. Competitions for all abilities are catered for and range from playing selected holes from the 150 yard marker to playing the full 18-Hole course.

A Junior Matchplay competition and a number of Fun Days are also held throughout the year and a Junior Golfer of the Year trophy is presented at the clubs annual awards evening.

Once a junior reaches a certain handicap standard and meets other specified criteria, he or she will be eligible to play in some of the Men’s or Ladies competitions respectively.

Safeguarding

Wicklow Golf Club is fully committed to safeguarding the wellbeing of its Junior Members and providing an environment that allows junior participants to perform to the best of their ability in a safe, positive and encouraging atmosphere.

Our Safeguarding Policy adopts the principles outlined in Golfs Safeguarding Policy, as produced by the GUI, ILGU, CGI and PGA in Ireland.

Each year, junior participants and their parent(s)/guardian(s) are required to familiarise themselves with and complete the relevant Code of Conduct and Consent Forms.  These can be accessed through the Members Area.

Jim Murphy Memorial Trophy

Jim Murphy Memorial Trophy is an open Junior competition run by Wicklow Golf Club and the Murphy family.  Jim Murphy was a great promoter of junior golf in the club and many of our members participated in his weekly lessons, held at the side of the first green.  This competition commemorates Jim Murphy and also carries on his great work in encouraging young people to play golf.
