Competitions
Congratulations to Paula Johnston and Susan Henderson who represented WGC in Woodbrook GC in the Coronation Foursomes. Congratulations also to Captain Debbie and Phil Laverty, and Rosemary Kavanagh and Mary stapleton who travelled to Stackstown GC to represent us in the Australian spoons Competition. Unfortunately, the “golfing Gods” didnt shine for in these competitions to progress to further rounds. Well done for qualifying and representing WGC in these events.
Vice Captain Maureen , Valerie Brennan & Patricia O’Connor took the trip to Carlow GC to represent us in the annual Valerie Doyle Competition. Unfortunately, our WGC players didn't bring back any trophies but enjoyed the event nonetheless. The players were all very proud to don the club colours and line out for these competitions.
Silver and Bronze Medals were won by Mary Cahill and Paula Johnston respectively.
They will both represent WGC in their respective Regional Finals as follows:
· Paula Johnston – 31st August 2026 Kilcock GC
· Mary Cahill – 7th September Naas GC
We wish them both the best of luck.
Interclub Competition
Commiserations to our Mixed Fourball Team and Managers who lost to Kilmashogue in their recent Semi- Final. Well done however, for reaching that stage of the competition.
Hard luck to the Intermediete Foursomes Team and managers on their recent loss in the Leinster South final to Killiney GC in Lucan on August 3rd. The team fought gallantly and narrowly missed out on victory on the day. We are all extremely proud of you for reaching this stage of the competition beating very strong competition along the way.
We wish our Mixed Foursomes Team and managers the very best of luck in their upcoming Final against Castle GC in Slade Valley.
A big thank you to all the supporters who came to Home and Away matches during this very busy season. Your support has been very much appreciated by team managers and players.
Junior Golf
A grant to promote girls' golf has been received by the club. Many thanks to Killian Jameson for co-ordinating this initiative. President Deirdre, Captain Debbie and other committee members will play a pivotal role in organising events for using this grant to have fun events to try and encourage our existing and new Junior girl members.
Get into Golf
Dylan has been running another Gigs programme and anyone intending to join will be offered a rate to cover membership till the end of the current term. If you know of anyone who is interested in taking up golf encourage them to send their details in to the club or to Dylan in the Pro-Shop so they can be considered for his 2027 programmes.
A 4 Hole scramble will be held on 22nd September for the Gigs who have taken up membership over the past couple of years, followed by an informal rules/Q&A session. Any new members who are currently playing 9 Holes or casual golf are most welcome to attend. Details will be sent out closer to the date.
