Course Irrigation
A few weeks ago we outlined the methods and systems used to irrigate the course.
The amounts of water used varies depending on weather conditions and the amount of rainfall we get in the months between May and August.
You may notice with the dry spell over the last few months how the course is starting to go brown and get extremely hard in certain places.
The water we use is extracted (under licence) from the lakes in front of the 17th Green.
This water comes via a small stream which runs under the 17th Green.
The extracted water is pumped from here to all the greens on the course and to most of the tee boxes.
This water supply diminishes in dry weather which results in water being rationed and maybe confined to usage on the greens only. The amount of time the sprinklers would be on could reduce from 12 minutes to 6 minutes depending on the amount of water remaining in the lakes.
We have plans to increase the storage capacity in one of the 3 lakes to increase our storage capabilities.
Last year we applied under the Sports Capital Programme for funds to increase our storage and we were awarded monies towards doing this work. It is proposed that these works could be started this autumn/winter when details have been finalised.
The Sports Capital Programme has been kind to us over the years. In 2016 we got a Grant to upgrade the practice green and chipping area. This was the old 3rd hole when the course was a 9 hole track.
We were also given a grant towards the On Course Toilet facility behind the 14th green.
Course Etiquette

2. Please replace pitch marks on the greens.
3. Please do not dump rubbish on the golf course, use the recycling bins or bring your rubbish home.
