.... a great coastal challenge
Winter League 2017/18 is underway. There is an excellent entry of 35 teams (up from 32 last year).
11 teams have returned with the same personnel including the 2016/17 Final day winners: Brendan Blake, Cian O’Sullivan, Joseph Murley & Patrick Boyle
3 of the 4 category winners from last year are competing again: Category 1 – Peter O’Hagan, Category 3 – Paul Ronan (now Category 2) & Category 4 – Michael T O’Neill
Assuming we have 15 weeks of Winter league play, the best 12 scores will count towards the final totals for both the team event & individual Category results.
The final week of this year’s Winter League competition was held over the weekend. 164 cards were returned with 102 of them entered in the Winter league.
We had a total of 12 weeks play out of the scheduled 15 Winter League weekends so the final totals are based on the best 9 scores from the 12 weeks. In the cases where there was a tie, the best discarded scores were used as tie-breakers
Weekly Team standings
1st – Team 35: John O'Neill Jnr. (29), John O'Neill (0), Martin O'Neill (31) & Michael T. O'Neill (30), 61 pts

Final Standings & Top 12 qualifiers
Team 1 held on to their lead and finished top of the qualifiers with a 9 point advantage.
There was a tie for 2nd place with teams 26 & 25 finishing the qualifiers with 551 points. Both teams were still tied once their best discarded score of 55 points was added. Their next best discarded score was then used to break the tie (55 Vs 53)
The final qualifying place also needed a tie-breaker with Team 35 missing out as their best discarded score of 46 was considerably lower than Team 11s 55 pts
